HIGH SCHOOL VOCAL ACADEMY | April 2012

Bourbon Baroque’s High School Vocal Academy is a week-long program focused on intense study of 18th century vocal performance practices through the broadly used 17th and 18th century Italian Songs and Arias collection.

The program includes daily voice lessons led by acclaimed early music specialist soprano, Teresa Wakim and accompanied by members of Bourbon Baroque, two group master classes, research seminars, a faculty performance by Bourbon Baroque, and the final Academy Recital at the end of the week featuring the students of the Academy accompanied by Bourbon Baroque.

Students will receive not only training in vocal interpretation of the Baroque song and aria form but also basic primary research materials to keep for future reference/study. Students will work daily with active early music professionals developing a well-rounded appreciation for the historically informed study of Baroque performance methods. WORKSHOPS

Bourbon Baroque presents "in-school" workshops for students grades K-12 on the culture, history, and music of the 17th and 18th centuries through the presentation of period music making.

Past workshops have included an introduction to the art of period dance and mannerisms with guest baroque dance specialist Caroline Copeland at Kentucky Country Day and Sacred Heart School for the Arts in Louisville, Kentucky. Ms. Copeland also led workshops at the Music Academy at St. Francis in Louisville, Kentucky where instrumental music students performed J.S. Bach dance suites with a LIVE period dancer.
